Programmes Facilitator G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services – HMP Oakwood, Wolverhampton
About the Role
HMP Oakwood, recognised as an "Impressive institution, with a culture of decency and respect", is a leading prison facility within England and Wales, accommodating up to approximately 2,100 Category C male prisoners. As part of Care & Rehabilitation Services, this role prioritises rehabilitating offenders by fostering positive relationships, improving critical thinking, and promoting anti-reoffending behaviours—aligning with government ambitions.
The Programmes Facilitator will work within a small team to deliver accredited and non-accredited programmes, helping prisoners develop personal insight, improve relationships, and transition successfully back into society.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver accredited programmes:
- Lead Offending Behaviour Programmes in group or individual sessions, adhering strictly to programme manuals.
- Plan sessions dynamically to address participant needs.

- Organise materials for session delivery.
- Complete post-session debriefs, record progress, and update assessments accurately.
- Write programme summaries, set objectives, and document success metrics.
- Collaborate with Treatment Managers and sentence-planning teams.

Firewalling & participation:
- Conduct motivational interviews to engage prisoners in programmes.
- Engage with past, present, and future participants to maintain commitment.

Case/sentence management:
- Liaise with prison and community offender managers to align rehabilitation goals.

Administration & Assurance:
- Comply with security protocols and adhere to the Quality Assurance Framework.
- Complete post-programme reviews and inform management of prison-wide progress.

Support team & promote learning:
- Deliver awareness training to colleagues on behavioural and rehabilitative approaches.
- Actively participate in supervision, training, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Adhoc initiatives:
- Support the delivery of non-accredited programmes/interventions (e.g., trauma awareness, communication skills).
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Ability to work in a team and willingness to undertake mandatory G4S training for accredited programmes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Resilience to navigate antisocial behaviour while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Commitment to safer working practices in a high-security environment.
Desirable Skills/Experience (Not Essential)
- Prior facilitation of group work with challenging individuals.
- Familiarity with Offending Behaviour Programmes or cognitive behavioural interventions.
- Knowledge of psychology/theories of offending (risk assessment, violent/sexual offending explanations and mitigation).
- Experience with motivational interviewing techniques.
Discretionary Assurance
- Passing all mandatory security training is non-negotiable—failure to complete training will inform formal suitability reviews.
- Must meet Home Office vetting standards (5-year history check), ensuring eligibility under 5-year criminal record disclosure requirements.

Working Conditions
- Permanent, Full-Time (40-hour week)
- Salary: £33,010.10 per annum
- Location: HMP Oakwood, Wolverhampton
- Security: Role exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
