Nomad Digital are currently on the look out for a Project Accountant to join the business on a part time basis (0.6 FTE) in our Newcastle Office. This is a global role supporting the business in driving accurate cost collection and to drive margin improvements through the reporting and analysis of project costing. It also requires the successful candidate to take responsibility for a portfolio of project accounts and application of revenue recognition methodology across the group.
This role would be a great fit for a high performing finance professional looking to move into a Project Accountant role or someone who has experience of working with project accounts and is motivated to support the team through a period of transformation.
Please note we are currently only able to accept applications from candidates able to commute to our office in Newcastle Upon Tyne 1-2 days per week
Job Purpose:
- To oversee and manage all financial aspects of a portfolio of projects, from initial bid submission to project closure.
- To track all project invoicing, costs & cashflow vs budget, and report on variances.
- To collaborate with Project Managers to maintain the project Estimate at Completion, margin, & project risks & opportunities.
- Application of revenue recognition methodology in accordance with IFRS15.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- To be a business partner for and provide strong operational support to project managers by advising on best practice procedures with projects and their accounting principles.
- To be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate monthly project accounts for a portfolio of O&M & Delivery projects across the group within set deadlines. Ensure adherence to appropriate accounting standards (IFRS15: Revenue from Contracts with Customers).
- To prepare project budgets/forecasts when required, and to ensure adherence to budget commitments and cash milestones.
- To deliver timely and accurate monthly reconciliation of WIP and POA to the ERP system.
- To be responsible for driving continuous improvement and efficiency in reporting and tools by the education and effective communication to the project teams.
- To drive continuous improvement within designated areas of responsibility.
- To approve purchase orders in line with Delegation of Authority.
- To perform such other ad hoc responsibilities which may be required from time to time.
- To adhere to the principles of all Nomad Values, Health and Safety guidelines and Ethics practices.
- To support the sales and bid teams in preparation of the bid cost models, assisting in tender sign off processes ensuring all internal controls and commercial approvals are adhered to.
- To manage all KPI reporting for Programme Leads ensuring that this is delivered on a regular basis in line with reporting schedules.
- To ensure adherence and be accountable for all project accounting and regulatory policies to include revenue and cost recognition, local government accounting policies etc.
- To challenge cost forecasts and drive margin protection and improvement plans through working closely with project managers on the risk register and savings and opportunity lists.
- To advise and drive margin improvements through the reporting and analysis of project costing and train and suggest and activate changes on an as-needs basis.

Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Would suit a high performing Finance professional seeking a move into a project accounting role
- Professional qualification (CIMA, ACA, ACCA) or equivalent
- Degree preferred
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting principles
- Exposure to long term contract accounting but not essential
- Experience in Competitive tendering an advantage but not essential
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
- Experience with an ERP system (NetSuite an advantage)
