Our Rolling Stock and Customer Service keeps trains running safely and reliably every day. The business delivers expert maintenance, technical support and digital solutions across the full lifecycle of rail fleets, helping customers maximise performance, availability and passenger satisfaction.

We’re looking for a Project Accountant

We’re looking for a Project Accountant to join our team in Leeds! In this role you will be responsible for the management of project accounts, enabling effective cost control and ensuring the provision of key management information to the project team. This role sits within our Rolling Stock Customer Services business, working on both the TransPennine Express and Northern Rail projects.

This role promotes hybrid working, with a requirement of 2 days on site per week. This role requires travel to both Manchester and Leeds, as this role supports projects across both locations. Please note, the location of the Leeds site will be moving to Shipley approximately by October 2027.

You’ll make a difference by...

  • Overall responsibility for correct cost booking, as well as budget and forecast cost controlling analysis on a monthly basis
  • Overall responsibility for the monthly closing of the project books, including journal processing and reporting
  • End-to-end customer invoice/billing management
  • Consolidate monthly submissions for forecast of all KPIs
  • Prepare financial reporting to support decision-making and Commercial Manager requirements
  • Maintain good customer relationships; calculating, agreeing, and negotiating additional charges and penalties each month
  • Actively participate in business process improvement and the digitalisation of processes
  • Calculate and document whole project lifecycle costs, including change and risk management
  • Internal progress reporting on KPIs and cost positions of all key budget lines and projects
  • Act with integrity in a supporting role to the wider operational depot team
  • Ensure awareness of and exhibit behaviours in accordance with Siemens compliance policies
  • Implement safe systems and controls in all aspects of your work, complying with HSWE policies
  • Responsible for paying supplier invoices and resolving Goods Receipt / Invoice Receipt discrepancies

Must haves:

  • Part-qualified/Full-qualified CIMA or ACCA
  • Prior experience in a financial/accounting role
  • Solid accounting skills with the ability to understand and interpret key financial statements
