The Role
We are seeking a Project and Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Carlisle.
This opportunity lets you work on highly bespoke, technically demanding projects, where your designs shape the final products manufactured, installed, and delivered to clients across the UK and overseas.
Key Responsibilities
As a Project and Design Engineer, you will:
- Take full ownership of customer projects from order through to installation.
- Convert customer specifications, site constraints, and requirements into engineered door solutions that are manufacturable, installable, and compliant.
- Work across acoustic, fire-rated, high-security, temperature-controlled, and nuclear applications in complex environments.
- Collaborate closely with:
- Customers and architects
- Estimators
- Production teams
- Installation professionals
- Other engineers
Daily Tasks
You will:
- Review and analyse customer specifications, drawings, and contract documents, identifying technical issues, scope gaps, and risks early.
- Perform or support site surveys as necessary.
- Produce General Arrangement and fabrication drawings for approval.
- Create manufacturing and machining drawings to precision engineering standards.
- Ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with contract requirements.
- Provide technical support to production and installation teams.
- Resolve customer, design, and site queries promptly.
- Conduct final inspection of completed doors against specifications.
- Contribute to product development and continuous improvement initiatives. -Own your projects, deadlines, and customer communication.

Requirements & Qualifications
We’re looking for an engineering enthusiast with a detail-oriented mindset and the ability to manage projects from concept to completion.
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Qualification:
- HNC, HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or
- Equivalent experience in engineering, manufacturing, or design roles.
- Technical Expertise:
- Experience producing and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Hands-on design for manufacture, installation, and real-world applications.
- Strong AutoCAD 2D skills (essential).
- 3D CAD experience (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks) is advantageous.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing, fabrication, or machining processes.
- Soft Skills & Attributes:
- Highly organised and detail-focused.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills—working with customers, engineers, and production teams.
- Good team player with a proactive problem-solving attitude.
- Willingness to travel to UK and overseas sites occasionally.
Bespoke Manufacturing Roles (e.g., specialization in doors, steel fabrication, or regulated industries experienced) are a plus but not essential.
