Project Buyer – Data Centers (Equans)

Location: Didsbury, Manchester (Primary) Travel: Occasional visits to regional offices and project sites

Equans Data Centers is seeking to appoint a Project Buyer to our growing Data Centre business, delivering records procurement outcomes across large-scale construction projects.

This role aligns with a high-growth team and offers an opportunity to shape supply chains, drive sustainable procurement, and reduce project risks through strategic commercial leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement Leadership: Oversee end-to-end buying for assigned projects, ensuring cost-effective, high-value solutions aligned with strategic goals.
  • Contract & Supplier Management: Negotiate and manage subcontractor agreements and material supply chain contracts, including commercial risk mitigation.
  • Supply Chain Strategy: Develop and optimise tailored supply chains for large-scale data centres, driving efficiency, performance, and cross-project learnings.
  • Full Project Lifecycle Engagement: Support tendering, preconstruction, contract negotiations, and delivery, acting as a sustainability guardian alongside operational responsibility.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Champion inspection with Project Directors/Managers on procurement insights, supply chain selection, and risk optimisation.
  • Carbon & Compliance Programme: Champion net-zero objectives, collaborating with suppliers on material reductions and circular economy adoption.

Education & Qualifications

  • Formal recognition in procurement or commercial roles preferred (e.g., CIPS Level 4, or equivalent relevant certification).
  • Experience in construction, building services, quantity surveying, or global commercial procurement highly valued.
  • Construction/Engineering/Quantity Surveying Degree or Diploma (desirable).

Skills & Experience

✔ Strong project management for high-complexity, multi-year contracts. ✔ Exceptional negotiation ability to influence suppliers and deliver contractual win-wins. ✔ Data-driven decision-making, using analytical tools (e.g., Tender Management Mastery Training). ✔ Genuine interest in **sustainability/carbon reduction practices with applicable supplier skills. ✔ Demonstrated success in building asset supply chains, minimising price/quality risk. ✔ Microsoft Excel experts—mastery in advanced functions for financial/strategic reporting. ✔ Resourcefulness: progress projects where other teams may have hit roadblocks. ✔ Seamless collaboration across multiple divisions (e.g., engineering, project sites). ✔ Problem-solving paired with stakeholder empathy for resolving complex commercial conflicts.
