Job Title: Project Controller
Location: Christchurch or Yeovil

Salary: Up to £43,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

Role Description:
As a Senior Project Controller, you will operate planning, monitoring, and control processes across medium to large-scale projects, ensuring delivery against cost, schedule, and performance objectives. You will apply specialist knowledge in one or more project control disciplines, adapting tools and practices to suit varying project requirements. You will also support the development and continuous improvement of project control approaches, while providing guidance and instruction to others. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support effective project governance and delivery outcomes.
Core Duties:
- Devises an appropriate project control system for specific projects/ portfolios and agrees this plan with the PMs/ work content owners
- Defines scope and provides cost estimates at the bid stage for projects that require project control support
- Coordinates with the PM to define the project requirements, schedule objectives and to develop the schedule
- Holds reviews with PMs/ work content owners to understand project progress and performance or risk
- Uses outputs from these reviews to update Project Control tools (for example, update progress against a baseline on a schedule, update the risk register, update estimates to complete in a cost tracker)
- Undertakes analysis on the project and can interpret and communicate its meaning with the PM. This may include – cost and schedule risk analysis, Earned Value Analysis
- Collates project status data and converts into an agreed format for reporting along with providing data towards the financial summary statement for the project or portfolio
- Ensures that the impact of project changes are captured through maintaining control over the schedule and budget baselines

Essential Skills:
- You’ll hold degree-level education or extensive practical experience demonstrating comparable expertise
- You’ll have broad planning, monitoring and control experience demonstrated within a business or project
- You’ll demonstrate an extensive, expert-level understanding of one or more project control tools, techniques and practices
- You’ll have knowledge of the project control capability landscape, including professional institutions
- You’ll have knowledge and experience of project control governance and assurance processes such as Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs)
- You’ll be able to communicate effectively and influence internal stakeholders, while capturing and sharing best practice to support consistent business outcomes

The PMO Team:
The Project Management Office (PMO) is a multi-site, collaborative team working within the Defence Business Unit. We support Project Managers and their teams to plan, schedule, monitor, report, and deliver projects and programmes on time and within budget, while driving consistency through standardised governance, shared best practices, and common tools. Through strong cross-site collaboration, clear communication, and effective use of digital platforms, the PMO enables transparency, optimises resources, and ensures successful, consistent delivery across all locations.
