Our AECOM Controls Team is an award-winning group within the Infrastructure & PMO Operating Unit. We support both public and private sector clients in the UK and globally, specialising in Cost, Risk, Planning, and Controls. With a focus on cutting-edge Controls Analytics solutions, we empower clients to drive data-backed decisions for project management and performance optimisation.

The team blends advanced analytics and AI-driven insights across project controls processes, helping clients refine their risk mitigation, scheduling, and financial health strategies. Leverage emerging technologies and data-driven approaches to deliver bespoke solutions, ensuring clients have a robust foundation for informed decision-making.

This is your opportunity: if you’re a proactive, analytical consultant with 2–3 years’ work experience in analytics, project controls, or project management, this role—expanding our Controls Analytics team—is ideal for advancing your career. You’ll tackle major global infrastructure projects, delivering actionable analytics solutions to enhance performance transparency in cost, schedule, and risk metrics.


Role Overview

The Controls Analytics Consultant will play a pivotal role in driving data-driven insights across large-scale infrastructure projects. Collaborating closely with project managers, risk experts, schedulers, and commercial teams, you’ll improve performance visibility and inform critical decision-making. This hands-on role focuses on developing practical analytics tools for cost, schedule, and risk—continuously building advanced technical and project controls expertise.


Key Responsibilities

Controls Analytics & Reporting
  • Support the creation and maintenance of dashboards and reports offering real-time performance oversight.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), spotting trends and deviations for process improvement.
  • Present clear, actionable insights to stakeholders and stakeholders, boosting effective governance.

Data Modelling & Analysis
  • Aid in building and refining analytical models to assess potential project outcomes grounded in current data.
  • Partner with internal teams to translate data into forward-looking strategies for risk and performance forecasting.
Risk & Performance Management
  • Integrate analytics insights into the broader risk management framework, streamlining both forecasting and risk-mitigation tools.
  • Develop enhanced reporting protocols that provide a holistic view of financial health, schedule adherence, and risk exposure.
    • Exposure to quantitative risk analysis (e.g., Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Analysis—QSRA/QCRA) would be advantageous.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Engage closely with project professionals and senior leadership to align reporting solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Deliver insights via tailored visualisations and clear storytelling—whether pitching to technical experts or non-experts.
Compliance & Governance
  • Apply analytics methodologies in line with core industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Stay current with emerging tools, techniques, and project controls best practices.

Skills & Expertise

The ideal candidate brings a mix of technical skills, analytical rigour, and collaboration mindset:

Analytical Tool Proficiency
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, Excel (or similar) for data analytics and reporting.
  • Comfort working with multi-source datasets, extracting actionable insights—(beneficial experience with **SQL, Python, or data modelling not written a condition but “expose to” **).
  • Pragmatic problem-solving: drawing sensible conclusions from data to streamline decision-making.
Project Controls Knowledge
  • Familiarity with disciplines like cost management, scheduling, or risk reporting.
  • Understanding of concepts such as forecasting, variance tracking, and earned value analysis.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Engineering, Project Controls, Project & Programme Management, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., AACEI, APM-affiliated, or others)—on the way or achieved—highly valued.
  • 2–3 years’ relevant experience in analytics, project controls, PMO-directed roles, finance, engineering, or related domains.
  • Experience analysing project, operational, or performance data within infrastructure, construction, energy, or consultancy environments.
  • Hands-on reporting, dashboarding, data visualisation, and tools like Power BI, Tableau along with advanced Excel skills.
  • (Demonstrated) expertise in cost or schedule analytics, statistical analysis, and data modelling.
