Project Controls Manager – Opportunities in the UK

Job Description

Turner & Townsend currently has exciting opportunities for Project Controls Managers across major construction projects throughout the UK. In this role, you will:

  • Lead a multi-functional Project Controls team
  • Work collaboratively with the client’s Project Manager and supply chain
  • Provide realistic baselines and effective controls
  • Monitor progress, manage issues, mitigate delays, and drive successful project outcomes

Key Accountabilities

  • Embed a robust Breakdown Structure, integrating data from all controls functions
  • Coordinate and lead estimating sessions for an agreed, market-tested cost baseline, ensuring value for money and budget realism
  • Lead planning sessions to compile the master project/programme schedule baseline, focusing on an achievable duration
  • Understand procurement principles, collating lead times to optimise material and equipment ordering aligned with installation schedules
  • Manage the risk management process, including qualitative and quantitative assessments to improve cost and schedule predictability
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment, securing sign-off on baselines and enabling regular progress visibility
  • Implement a robust update process for managing schedule, interfaces, costs, risks, and changes
  • Guide and influence the principal contractor and client to achieve schedule and cash flow KPIs
  • Apply expertise in conceptual estimating, contingency management, and procurement principles to control costs
  • Maintain and improve the master programme, applying quality checks to inputs from the client and contractor
  • Lead the change management process, including tracking, monitoring, and approving changes in a timely manner
  • Identify trends and root causes of deviations using lead/lag indicators before escalating necessary actionable insights

Requirements

  • Proven experience in delivering Controls in a high-value project/programme environment
  • Experience in managing a multi-functional controls team
  • Proficiency in controls software such as Primavera (P6), Power BI, and Microsoft Office applications
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Engineering & procurement workflows
    • Contracts & construction processes
    • Start-up procedures
  • Experience in leading collaborative workshops
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a team environment
  • Demonstrated time management, strategic thinking, and strict adherence to project deadlines
  • High motivation, passion for client excellence, and ability to deliver independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to travel (remote work is available, but site attendance remains necessary for projects)
