About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Manager to join our growing team in the Midlands and Central South region.
The Project Controls Manager will play a key role in our expanding Midlands Project Controls team, collaborating across disciplines to implement best practice Controls, Planning, Analytics and Reporting, Risk, Change, Resource and Performance Management solutions for complex client commissions. As part of this role, you will lead project controls implementation, ensuring seamless delivery of outcomes aligned with client objectives while cultivating a collaborative, high-performing culture.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities

Collaborative Leadership:
- Manage a project controls team across major commissions or projects, ensuring effective delivery of scope and coordination of resources.

Implementation of Project Controls Strategies:
- Develop bespoke Project Controls Management strategies and processes for projects, programmes, and portfolios, evidenced by practical experience.
- Apply clear understanding of best practice controls principles to define project objectives and translate procurement or lifecycle strategies into action plans.

Subject Matter Expertise (SME):
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge in disciplinary areas such as Planning, Reporting, Risk Management, Cost Control, Estimating, Change, Governance, or Strategy.

Technological Proficiency:
- Deep working knowledge of software such as Primavera, Project Online, Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject, SAP, @Risk, Pertmaster, Active Risk Manager (ARM), Acumen Suite, Power BI, Azure, Tableau, SharePoint, CEMAR and Conject.
- Advise clients on selecting the most appropriate project controls solutions for their needs.

Contractual and Compliance Expertise:
- Understanding of NEC (New Engineering Contract) contractual frameworks and its implications on controls delivery.

Assurance and Audit:
- Conduct independent reviews to ensure high-quality project data, challenging and rationalising information before client submission.
- Maintain compliance with internal standards on complex or sensitive assignments.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Presently status updates and performance metrics to stakeholders with recommendations for recovery plans and mitigation strategies to address deviations.

Driving a Positive Culture:
- Hold work package owners accountable for performance.
- Design tailored outputs that meet varying stakeholder needs, identifying key interfaces and dependencies, and implement governance frameworks to ensure seamless project communication.
Desirable Skills
- Line Management: Responsibility for a team, showcasing leadership and motivational skills with a passion for mentoring.
- Proposal Development: Experience in writing, reviewing and assuring bids or project proposals.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional oral and written presentation enhancing relationship management and reporting.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365: Familiarity with this system would be beneficial.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Demonstrated leadership and proficiency in managing project controls teams for high-value projects.
- Implementing tailored strategies for large-scale projects, programmes, and portfolios that align with client-specific business objectives.
- Strong expertise in best practice project controls, including Planning, Analytics, Risk, Cost Control, Performance Management, and Change.
- Proficient in NEC contracts and their influence on project delivery.
- Tools & Systems Competency: Proficiency in project controls software, such as those listed above, and ability to guide selection for organisations.
- Delivery of stand-up and comprehensive project status reports, focusing on variance reasons and remedial actions.
- Proven ability to effectively challenge project data for accuracy, ensuring clarity and alignment with project needs.
- Ability to drive a high-performance project controls culture, holding deliverers accountable while fostering desired changes.
