About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Manager to join our growing team, contracted from our Midlands and Central South region.

The Project Controls Manager will join our expanding Midlands Project Controls team, working with a diverse range of clients. You will lead the implementation of best-practice Controls, Planning, Analytics and Reporting, Risk, Change, Resource and Performance Management solutions across complex, multi-discipline projects and commissions.

As a Project Controls Manager, you will be an outstanding communicator, ensuring active engagement across all aspects of Project Controls to drive successful project, programme, and portfolio outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Core Deliverables

  • Manage project controls teams on large-scale, high-complexity projects, ensuring s scope is delivered and resources are coordinated effectively.
  • Implement bespoke Project Controls strategies and processes across projects, programmes, and portfolios.
  • Translate client-specific procurement and lifecycle strategies into changeable Project Controls execution plans.
  • Define success metrics and develop governance frameworks to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in at least one Project Controls discipline (Planning, Analytics & Reporting, Risk, Cost Control, Estimating, Change, Governance, and Strategy).
  • Recommend, Scope and implement Project Controls systems such as Primavera, Project Online, Microsoft Project, Asta PowerProject, SAP, @Risk, Pertmaster, ARM, Acumen Suite, Power BI, Azure, Tableau, SharePoint, CEMAR, Conject, and advise on technical solutions to meet client needs.
  • Assess and advise on contractual influences (e.g., **NECs) and how project controls are affected.
  • Conduct independent reviews and SOX compliance audits, ensuring accurate, high-quality project data and appropriate risk management.
  • Present clear, structured project status reports to stakeholders, identifying gaps and proposing recovery/recovery plans or mitigation strategies.
  • Foster a “can-do” culture, holding work package owners accountable, designing tailored outputs for varied stakeholders, managing key interfaces and dependencies, and ensuring effective governance and communication.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in line management, including mentoring, inspiring, and developing teams.
  • Involvement in bid/proposal preparation, including writing, reviews, and assurances.
  • Excellent communicators (both oral and written) with strong relationship-building and reporting capabilities.
  • Passionate about knowledge-sharing through mentoring/leadership.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

✔ Leading a project controls team on large-scale projects with cross-functional accountability. ✔ Strong evidence of implementing bespoke Project Controls processes across complex deliveries. ✔ Deep understanding of best-practice Project Controls principles, procurement strategies, and their impact on execution. ✔ SME (Subject Matter Expert) in at least one Project Controls discipline (Planning, Risk, Cost, Strategy, etc.). ✔ Proficiency in core Project Controls tools (Primavera, Asta, SAP, @Risk, Power BI, Tableau etc.). ✔ Knowledge of NEC contracts and awareness of their impact on delivery. ✔ Conducting audits and quality assurance to challenge and rationalise project data. ✔ Clear, data-driven project status reporting with evidence-based recommendations.

Strongly Preferred
