Project Design Engineer (Structural Steel)
Location: Sheffield
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 per annum, dependent on experience
An established engineering company based in Sheffield is seeking an experienced Project Design Engineer (Structural Steel) to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a varied range of bespoke engineering projects, with a strong emphasis on structural steelwork.
The Role
As a Project Design Engineer (Structural Steel), you will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D design drawings and supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and installation. The successful candidate will work closely with production, project management and site teams to ensure designs are practical, accurate and delivered on time.
The role will also involve occasional visits to customer sites to carry out measurements, surveys and complete the associated site documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D drawings using AutoCAD 2D.
- Create and develop designs using Autodesk software.
- Design structural steelwork, pipework and steel support structures.
- Liaise with internal departments to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture.
- Carry out occasional site surveys and take accurate measurements.
- Complete site paperwork and survey reports.
- Support projects throughout the design and delivery process.

Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience using Autodesk software and AutoCAD 2D and 3D is essential.
- Strong background in structural steelwork design, with experience in pipework and steel support structures being advantageous.
- Ideally a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar Project Design Engineer (Structural Steel) role, although applicants with less experience who can demonstrate the required skills will also be considered.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- A full UK driving licence is essential due to the requirement for occasional site visits.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
