Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully-integrated design and build business, combining the design expertise of Mott MacDonald with the contracting experience of JN Bentley to deliver award-winning projects. The company has been named a capital delivery partner for two multi-million-pound ‘lots’, ensuring projects across the region will be delivered through to 2030, with the potential for further extension into AMP9.

Working with Wessex Water, which serves 2.9 million customers across the south-western England region, the business will deliver significant infrastructure upgrades under AMP8—an investment more than double that of AMP7. Schemes will focus on Bournemouth, Poole, and South Dorset.


About the Role

The Project Design Engineer – Civil role blends project management and design engineering, guiding projects from outline to detailed design stages. You’ll have the opportunity to accelerate your journey to chartership or develop expertise across multiple disciplines. Explore the broader role in our Project Leader campaign – YouTube.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Work within a "project triangle" with Site Managers and Quantity Surveyors to ensure technical, constructability, and commercial alignment throughout delivery.
  • Lead end-to-end design (from outline conceptualisation to completed build, including CAD, compliance, and handover).
  • Coordinate civil, electrical, mechanical, and process specialisms, alongside BIM modellers and construction technologists, ensuring designs meet budget, programme, and quality standards.
  • Undertake discipline-specific design tasks and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships, fostering teamwork across operational, project, and technical assurance teams.

Requirements

  • Accredited Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Incorporated Membership of a professional engineering institution.
  • Direct design experience in water or wastewater infrastructure (outline to detailed stages).
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015 Designer/Principal Designer duties.
