Contract Project Design Engineer (CATIA V5) - Aerospace – Dorchester - Up to £50 per hour – Outside IR35 – Minimum 3 months

We're looking for an experienced Project Design Engineer to support the delivery of innovative and safety critical engineering projects within a fast-paced, technically challenging environment.

If you're an accomplished design engineer with strong CATIA V5 experience and a track record of delivering complex mechanical designs, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge engineering programmes where your technical expertise will have a direct impact from concept through to production.

Project Design Engineer – the role:

  • Producing high-quality 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CATIA V5.
  • Leading design activities across the full product development lifecycle.
  • Managing design packages and ensuring projects are delivered on time and to specification.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, stress, quality, and programme management.
  • Supporting design reviews, technical problem solving, and continuous product improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and engineering standards.

Project Design Engineer – candidate requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Project Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer.
  • Advanced CATIA V5 modelling and drafting skills.
  • Ideally experience in Aerospace, however automotive, marine and rail industry experience is also being considered.
  • Experience delivering complex mechanical design projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacture.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems.
  • Understanding of certification or airworthiness requirements.
