Project Director – Data Centres
Location: Jakarta, Indonesia (12+ month assignment)
Eligibility: This opportunity is open to UK nationals who are willing to relocate to Jakarta, Indonesia for a minimum period of 12 months. Full relocation support will be provided.
Overview
The Project Director is responsible for the successful leadership and delivery of complex, high-value data centre projects from pre-construction through commissioning, handover, and project close-out. Reporting to senior leadership, the Project Director provides strategic direction across multiple project teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This role requires an experienced leader with a strong Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) background and a proven track record of delivering mission-critical data centre projects. The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing multidisciplinary teams, engaging with clients and consultants, and overseeing all commercial, operational and technical aspects of large-scale projects across Europe and other international locations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the delivery of hyperscale and colocation data centre projects.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams throughout the full project lifecycle, from design coordination to commissioning and client handover.
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual obligations, programme milestones, budget, quality standards and client expectations.
- Develop and implement project execution strategies to achieve successful project outcomes.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary senior point of contact for clients, consultants, developers and key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and collaborative problem solving.
- Chair executive project meetings and provide regular progress updates to both internal leadership and external stakeholders.
- Manage stakeholder expectations while ensuring commercial and operational objectives are achieved.

Commercial & Financial Management
- Oversee project financial performance including budgets, forecasting, cash flow and profitability.
- Work closely with Commercial teams to manage valuations, change control, variations, claims and final accounts.
- Review commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.
- Support contract negotiations and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical oversight across all Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing disciplines.
- Ensure engineering solutions meet client specifications, industry standards and operational requirements for mission-critical facilities.
- Review design development, value engineering opportunities and technical submissions.
- Support commissioning strategies and integrated systems testing to ensure successful project completion.
Programme & Delivery
- Lead project planning and execution to achieve key programme milestones.
- Monitor project performance, identifying risks, delays and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate internal departments, subcontractors, suppliers and specialist contractors to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Drive continuous improvement across project execution methodologies.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Promote a strong safety culture across all projects.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements and applicable legislation.
- Champion quality assurance processes and ensure projects achieve the highest construction and commissioning standards.
- Support environmental and sustainability initiatives where applicable.
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop Project Managers, Construction Managers and wider project teams.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Support recruitment, succession planning and talent development within the project delivery function.

Skills & Experience
- Significant experience delivering large-scale data centre or other mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Strong Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) background gained within engineering, construction or building services.
- Proven experience operating at Project Director, Senior Project Manager or Programme Director level.
- Demonstrable experience managing complex projects from pre-construction through commissioning and final handover.
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes, integrated systems testing and operational readiness within data centre environments.
- Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies, project controls and programme management.
- Excellent commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasting and contractual risk.
- Strong understanding of NEC, FIDIC and other standard forms of construction contract.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple project locations.
- Excellent client-facing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to make strategic decisions in fast-paced, high-value project environments.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Professional membership with a recognised engineering or construction institution is desirable.
- Relevant health and safety qualifications are advantageous.
