The Advisory Business forms part of the wider Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy Business of c2,000 staff. Our workload is mainly (but not solely) based in the UK. Main Purpose of the Role
To develop and lead delivery teams within the Advisory business area, to meet the needs of our contracts and projects. Providing leadership, technical direction and guidance to project management teams and operational managers.
The role will require you to take full responsibility (bidding, technical delivery, margin generation) of consulting projects within the Property & Buildings sector including specialist surveys, reports, refurbishment and upgrade works as well as new build projects. The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge of the built environment sector and extensive experience of delivery from a consulting perspective.
Responsibilities
- Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within the Advisory portfolio controlling budgets and managing costs associated with the production of deliverables.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives up to director level, including preparation of presentations.
- Leading the preparation of bids and the general work winning function, including the role of Bid Director.
- Provide technical guidance to project managers and design disciplines across the Property & Buildings portfolio.
- Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business.
- Input into budget preparation and thereafter accountable for delivery of schemes to programme and monthly budget.
- Ensure studies, investigation, design, procurement, audits and work contract supervision are carried out in accordance with relevant requirements.
- Prioritise and control all design activities across the business area.
- Provide professional and technical advice throughout the Advisory operating areas.
- Be an ambassador for Amey values.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Amey to develop and deliver the business plans.
Size & Scope
They will be responsible for the commercial success of the projects within the portfolio controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
Relationships
- Strong evidence of formal business relationships with clients and suppliers at peer level and above and a comprehensive personal external network.
- Strong demonstrable evidence of the ability to use a personal external network for business benefit e.g. during the bidding process.
- Technical and Business leaders across the Amey Consulting Business.
Qualifications
Person Requirements
- Bachelors or masters degree, in Project Management or a Built Environment technical discipline.
- Corporate membership of relevant Institution.

Skills
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of the Built Environment sector.
- Ability to manage others and to deliver multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Good ability to check work produced by others including for technical content.
- Demonstrates high level of commercial awareness, including identification of scope variations and potential for additional fees.
- Deep understanding of their technical background discipline and how that relates to the built environment sector.
- Understanding of the input required by all disciplines to deliver designs and the associated ability to generate fees using a bottom-up process.
- Demonstrates an excellent understanding of Health Safety and Welfare including specific regulations.
- Good understanding of the role of Principal Designer requirements under both the CDM and Building Regulation (amendment) regulations (Building safety act).
- Demonstrable ability to resolve interface clashes, and to manage clashes within their specific disciplines.
