Project Engineer – Wastewater Industry (Guildford)
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Project Engineer to strengthen their commercial team.

The Role: Project Engineer
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer role involves managing the design, construction, commissioning, and handover of contracts. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing challenging technical solutions
- Identifying opportunities for innovation
- Driving efficiencies to deliver projects:
- Safely
- To specification
- On programme
- Within agreed tender budgets
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety
- Ensuring excellent customer satisfaction
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and regularly update construction programmes to ensure delivery against key milestones.
- Organise, chair, and contribute to collaborative planning sessions, ensuring critical activities are programmed effectively with all stakeholders.
- Raise and distribute requisitions to procurement teams in line with project requirements.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between engineering teams and supply chain partners for alignment and efficient delivery.
- Provide day-to-day leadership of the site management team, resolving issues or escalating as necessary.
- Review consolidated supplier invoices, identifying discrepancies prior to approval for payment.
- Maintain and coordinate the project risk register, providing monthly updates and supporting risk mitigation.
- Attend and contribute to Health & Safety, progress, employee forum, and coordination meetings.
- Collaborate across Project Management, Health & Safety, Design, and Construction teams to:
- Report near misses/unsafe conditions/incidents
- Investigate and close out incidents
- Prepare pre-start documentation and ensure all project data is uploaded and maintained.
- Support cost management activities by:
- Working with the Project Quantity Surveyor
- Developing cost plans
- Monitoring commitments
- Assisting with mitigation strategies for cost variances
- Lead and champion design liaison meetings for disciplined coordination.

Requirements
- Proven experience in project management within construction or engineering
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects under NEC3 contract form
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a construction-related discipline
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to collaborate with:
- Clients
- Stakeholders
- End users
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations (2015)
- Experience delivering engineering/infrastructure projects
- Delivery-focused approach, including:
- Setting/managing/monitoring project programmes
- Meeting performance targets
- Contract management capability, including:
- Administration
- Compliance
- Governance framework awareness and reporting structures
- Proven skills in:
- Budgeting
- Cost control
- Financial management
- Experience with risk/opportunity/issue management and mitigation
- Competence in project planning and scheduling
- Experience with digital project delivery tools/projects
- Procurement experience, including:
- Tendering
- Negotiation
- Supplier management
- Ability to contribute to solutions development during:
- Pre-construction
- Design phases
- Stakeholder/client/conflict management skills
- Resource planning and management experience
- Change management capability within a project environment
- Commitment to quality management and continuous improvement
