Project Engineer (IMR WR)

Location: East Anglia area – Peterborough, Huntingdon, Lincoln, Colchester, Milton Keynes, Northampton & Norwich

Working Hours: Full-time 37 hours.

Salary: dependent on experience and skills

We’re looking for practical problem-solvers and team players who want to make a real difference. In this role, you’ll help repair and maintain metering equipment that supports accurate water use, improves efficiency, and protects our environment for future generations. No two days are the same — from diagnosing faults to delivering hands-on solutions in the field, you’ll be part of a team that keeps our water recycling operations running smoothly.

What You Will Be Doing As Our Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is a flexible Alliance role responsible for supporting the Delivery Programme Manager, Lead Project Engineer, and Area Operations Managers in delivering projects and planned programmes that reduce operational risk.

The role involves enabling activities for both large‑scale emergency works and planned project parcels across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver enabling activities for major emergency projects across the region.
  • Provide progress updates (time, cost, quality) to key stakeholders.
  • Analyse data and risks to develop clear cost–benefit propositions.
  • Work flexibly across the region as workload dictates.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis and optioneering where required.
  • Adhere to governance requirements, including spend authorisation and periodic reviews.
  • Support reporting requirements for the Delivery Programme Manager and Lead Project Engineer.
  • Comply with all site health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain valid personal H&S and MTRA documentation.

Key Skills & Behaviours

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (desirable)
  • Proven technical experience in water / wastewater environment (desirable)
  • Knowledge of H&S & CDM regulations
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills – multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills – written and verbal
  • Experience of working within a governance framework
  • Ability to manage workload of self and others to tight deadlines
  • Commercial Acumen – and understanding of the value of work
  • Ability to manage your own time
  • Ability to challenge constructively, question and receive feedback
  • Ability to motivate and encourage
  • Tenacity, strong drive and a desire to achieve
