Job Description
About the Role
The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil and marine engineering projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role provides technical engineering support, manages project activities, and ensures compliance with engineering, commercial, health, safety, environmental, and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the planning and delivery of civil and marine engineering projects, providing practical engineering solutions.
- Plan, programme, and monitor project activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Provide technical engineering input to the UDS Project Delivery Team, including reviewing engineering designs, technical documentation, and construction methodologies.
- Coordinate project delivery, ensuring engineering, commercial, quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements are met.
- Liaise with clients, client representatives, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
- Monitor project costs, manage variations, and assist with commercial performance.
- Prepare project progress reports, including programme, financial, and technical updates.
- Identify and manage project risks and ensure changes to project scope or site activities are controlled in accordance with the UDS Management of Change procedure.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, method statements, risk assessments, contractual requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Coordinate project teams and site personnel, ensuring employees and contractors receive appropriate inductions, familiarisation training, and site-specific briefings.
- Support tendering and pre-construction activities by providing engineering and technical input where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, and project delivery.

Key Objectives
- Deliver civil and marine engineering projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Provide technical engineering support to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, company procedures, industry standards, and contractual requirements.
- Identify and manage project risks, implementing appropriate control measures.
- Promote a positive health, safety, and environmental culture.
- Ensure engineering solutions are practical, efficient, and fit for purpose.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to achieve project objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the business.
- Support tender submissions by providing technical information when required.
- Maintain accurate project records and provide timely project reporting.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience with civil, marine, or construction projects.
- Recognised qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Good project planning and organisational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
- Sound technical understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methods.
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DBS/security clearance where required.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working within the marine, offshore, infrastructure, Utilities, defence, or renewable energy sectors.
- Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and industry standards.
Essential Qualifications & Training
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM PMQ, or equivalent) or relevant project management experience.
- SMSTS.
- CSCS Manager Card (Black Card) or Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) Card.
- First Aid at Work.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
- NEBOSH / IOSH certification.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. MICE, IEng, CEng, or working towards professional registration).
- Confined Space Entry (Medium/High Risk).
