Overview Of Role
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the delivery of a high volume of Minor New Works (MNW) projects within a live manufacturing environment. The role focuses on leading and coordinating engineering and delivery activities across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring works are planned, executed, and closed out efficiently with minimal disruption to operations.
Working within established governance and client standards, you will take ownership of delivering projects safely, compliantly, and to the required quality, programme, and cost expectations. This includes managing rapid mobilisation, short-duration works, and reactive or risk-driven project interventions typical within a manufacturing setting.
The role requires strong organisational capability, technical competence, and the ability to lead delivery across a fast-paced portfolio, maintaining a consistent focus on safety, compliance, and operational continuity.
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering, and closing out projects. You will lead day-to-day delivery activities, managing resources, interfaces, and technical requirements to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and within budget.
This role requires strong technical awareness, attention to detail, and exceptional communication to manage relationships with internal teams, supply chain partners, and client stakeholders.
The Project Engineer is accountable for the delivery of projects throughout the lifecycle, ensuring works are technically compliant, well managed, and aligned with project objectives.
Main Duties
Project Planning and Initiation
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements
- Prepare and issue key project documentation such as Project Briefs, Project Initiation Documentation (PID), and project plans
- Lead governance and review processes to ensure compliance and assurance
- Undertake risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies
Project Execution and Monitoring
- Lead and coordinate delivery activities in line with the project plan
- Monitor progress and performance, taking action to address risks, delays, or issues
- Chair or lead site meetings and project reviews
- Ensure delivery aligns with agreed programme, scope, and cost requirements

- Act as a key point of contact for stakeholders during project delivery
- Manage communication, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and timely updates
- Obtain approvals at key project stages
- Prepare and issue progress reports, outlining performance, risks, and key issues
Risk, Quality, and Compliance
- Own and maintain project risk, issue, and quality registers
- Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations and health and safety standards
- Implement and manage quality assurance processes to ensure deliverables meet required standards
Financial and Programme Management
- Manage and track project costs and expenditure
- Control changes to scope, cost, and programme
- Monitor financial performance and take corrective action where required
- Support final account agreement and project close-out
Team Coordination and Delivery Leadership
- Lead coordination of project activities across internal teams and supply chain partners
- Allocate tasks and manage delivery responsibilities across the project
- Provide technical direction and resolve engineering and delivery challenges
- Maintain delivery momentum and accountability across all workstreams
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in a Project Engineer or delivery role within construction, FM, or infrastructure projects
- Experience delivering projects across varying levels of complexity, risk, cost, and CDM requirements
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication and stakeholder management capability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project tools
- Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and health and safety compliance
- SMSTS / SSSTS or IOSH(desirable)
- Engineering or project qualification (HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent experience)
Health And Safety Responsibilities
- Follow company policies and procedures at all times
- Identify and report deficiencies in systems of work or equipment
- Ensure safe use of all equipment and appropriate PPE
- Proactively manage safety risks within project delivery
- Report incidents, risks, and training needs through appropriate channels
Information Security
- Comply with Mitie information security procedures
- Identify and report potential security risks
- Report any actual or suspected security incidents
