About The Role
As a Project Engineer specializing in Buildings & Systems at Mars, located in Melton Mowbray, you will play a vital role in leading the planning and execution of infrastructure and facility projects that support the company’s manufacturing operations. Your responsibilities will encompass managing the full lifecycle of capital projects, from initial concept through to commissioning and handover. You will serve as a technical leader, ensuring that all projects align with safety standards, quality expectations, and sustainability goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of Mars’s manufacturing capabilities by integrating innovative, energy-efficient, and sustainable technologies into our facilities. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience in managing end-to-end capital projects within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, particularly in FMCG, food, or pet food sectors, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of process engineering, utility distribution, building systems, and automation/control systems. Knowledge of machine safety standards, building codes, local compliance regulations, and food safety management systems such as HACCP and GMP is essential. Strong stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills are required to influence cross-functional teams and external vendors effectively. Additionally, a passion for continuous improvement, sustainable technologies, energy efficiency, and future-proofing manufacturing operations will set candidates apart.

Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of capital projects for manufacturing infrastructure, including new buildings, utilities, and process equipment, ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, and budget targets.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, monitor progress against critical milestones, and control project scope, costs, and quality to ensure flawless execution.
- Manage the full procurement lifecycle for process equipment, including developing technical specifications, issuing tenders, evaluating bids, and collaborating with Commercial teams to secure favorable terms and build strong supplier relationships.
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and startup of new utilities and process equipment, coordinating seamlessly with Maintenance, Operations, R&D, and external contractors to ensure smooth performance trials and a successful handover to production.
- Ensure all new equipment and line designs comply with relevant safety standards and engineering guidelines by conducting rigorous risk assessments and adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations aligned with Mars global standards.
- Develop and manage project budgets with accurate forecasting and cost tracking, particularly within the Inbound & Process areas, while providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Act as a technical advisor, influencing decision-making processes and promoting best practices across cross-functional teams to enhance project outcomes and operational efficiency.
