Project Engineer
Project Engineer – Capital Delivery (Anglian Water IOS Framework)
Location: Colchester, East Anglia Employment Type: Permanent
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading infrastructure services provider in the Water and Wastewater sector for a Project Engineer to support the Anglian Water Capital Delivery team.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation, delivering essential infrastructure projects across the water sector. The successful candidate will:
- Support the delivery of Civil and MEICA projects (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Automated Systems).
- Ensure projects meet safety, time, budget, and contractual expectations.
- Work in a combination of office and site-based roles with regular travel across East Anglia.
The role is critical in supporting clean water supplies, environmental performance, and resilient infrastructure for future generations.
Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery:
- Deliver Civil and MEICA projects against programme, budget, specification, and client requirements.
- Support the Project Delivery Manager in successfully delivering multiple capital projects under the Anglian Water framework.

Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to contractual, statutory, environmental, and health & safety requirements.
- Monitor project performance and identify risks affecting programme, cost, or quality.
- Issue Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and submit Change Requests for project delays or cost changes.
- Record asset changes (decommissioning, alterations, new assets) in corporate systems.

Stakeholder & Site Management:
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and operational teams.
- Attend site visits to oversee quality and compliance.
- Support project planning, reporting, and documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Client Engagement:
- Drive innovation in project delivery processes.
- Maintain strong client relationships with high-level customer service.
- Work on clean water and water recycling treatment projects in East Anglia.

Regulatory & Final Delivery Compliance:
- Ensure all works align with client expectations and regulatory requirements.
Key Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- An engineering background with strong practical and technical knowledge.
- A qualification in engineering (e.g., NVQ, BTEC, HNC/HND, or Degree).
- Customer-facing experience with excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Knowledge of project delivery principles in an engineering environment.
- Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in team settings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working in both office and site environments.
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential for regular travel across East Anglia).
- Based within a commutable distance of Colchester.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in water, wastewater, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of Civil and MEICA project delivery.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts, Early Warning Notices, and change management.
- Experience in regulated environments.
- Understanding of clean water or water recycling treatment processes.
