A Snapshot of Your Day

Join our Digital Grid team as a Project Engineer and play a vital role in delivering advanced grid automation and digital substation projects across the UK. You will collaborate closely with project management, engineering teams, and customers to ensure the efficient execution of solutions that support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon, resilient energy system. Your role will blend technical engineering, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement, allowing you to deliver high-quality digital grid solutions that align with Siemens Energy standards and UK regulatory requirements.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Deliver engineering activities for Digital Grid and Substation Automation projects in line with customer specifications and UK grid standards.
  • Design, configure, and integrate IEC 61850-based digital substation systems.
  • Develop and review engineering documentation, including system architecture, communication design, and functional specifications.
  • Interface with internal teams, suppliers, and UK customers such as National Grid, DNOs, and TSOs.
  • Provide support during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure compliance with Siemens Energy quality processes, HSE standards, and UK regulatory requirements.
  • Identify project risks and support mitigation planning throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with project managers, customers, vendors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including system architecture, I/O lists, and communication configurations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and digital innovation within the team.

What You Bring

  • A university degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Or demonstratable, relevant experience.
  • 3–7 years of experience in project execution in grid automation and substation engineering, preferably with end users and/or EPC companies.
  • Experience in coordinating system integration, testing, and commissioning is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to make independent decisions and recommendations to management.
  • Proven experience working in an intercultural setting with globally dispersed teams, showcasing strong teamwork capabilities with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in both oral and written English and in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willingness to work from the Newcastle office 3 to 4 days a week and travel for project requirements.
