Description
Every day, CMS2 technology helps submariners operate safely in one of the world's most challenging environments. By developing and supporting high-availability atmosphere management systems that generate breathable air for extended underwater operations, we play a vital role in submarine capability. As a Project Engineer, you will support the delivery of these mission-critical engineering solutions, working closely with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams across the full product lifecycle.
Reporting to the Industrialisation Manager, you will combine technical problem-solving with project delivery responsibilities, ensuring engineering solutions are developed, manufactured, tested and delivered in line with customer requirements. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate engineering activities, manage technical documentation, support risk management activities and contribute to successful project delivery.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills while working on complex systems operating in highly regulated defence environments. You will gain exposure to the full engineering lifecycle and play an important role in supporting products that directly contribute to submarine operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of engineering projects throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and design through to manufacture, test and customer acceptance.
- Coordinate activities across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Project Management functions.
- Provide technical support for design improvement and obsolescence management activities.
- Create, maintain and control Product Bills of Materials (BoMs).
- Maintain engineering specifications, drawings and associated technical documentation.
- Support engineering change and configuration management activities.
- Assist in the identification, management and mitigation of technical risks.
- Participate in design reviews, technical reviews and project meetings.
- Support customer technical queries and contribute to customer review activities.
- Work with suppliers to resolve technical queries and support procurement activities.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning teams in resolving technical issues.
- Contribute to verification, validation and qualification activities.
- Review technical publications, operating manuals and maintenance documentation.
- Monitor progress against project plans and provide updates to Project Managers and Engineering leadership.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes and engineering practices.
- Ensure all activities comply with company procedures, customer requirements and quality standards.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- Degree-qualified, HNC/HND qualified, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant engineering experience within a manufacturing, project delivery or systems engineering environment, typically gained through at least two years in industry.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Understanding of engineering lifecycle processes and configuration control principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.

Desirable
- Experience within the Defence, Maritime, Naval, Aerospace or Nuclear sectors.
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles.
- Experience with ERP, MRP or PLM systems.
- Familiarity with engineering change management processes.
- Understanding of risk management, FMEA or root cause analysis methodologies.
- Exposure to verification and validation activities.
- Project management training or qualifications such as APM Fundamentals, APM PMQ or PRINCE2 Foundation.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive engineer who enjoys solving technical problems and seeing projects progress from concept through to delivery. They will be comfortable working across multiple disciplines, building strong relationships with colleagues and customers, and taking ownership of technical work packages. They will be motivated by learning, developing their engineering capability and contributing to products that have a real operational impact.
