Project Engineer
Join Our Pack From a bold idea to revolutionising dog food, Years has grown into a fast-scaling business helping dogs live longer, healthier lives. In three years we’ve built an incredible startup serving thousands of happy customers human-grade, personalised meals, with no preservatives, delivered straight to the door. We’re scaling fast across the UK with international ambitions, and we need an engineer who can build the production capability to get us there: and grow with us as we do it. Your Mission - Build It, Then Build What’s Next This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can turn their hand to almost anything: sketch a rig on Monday, weld it on Wednesday, wire and set it up on Friday, and have it running on the line the following week. One day you’re fabricating a guard, the next you’re fault-finding a breakdown, and then the next you’re building a panel or tuning a line for better flow. But this isn’t a job that stands still. More Years is on a serious growth curve, and so is this role. As we scale, you’ll move from making today’s line better to shaping how we make everything: leading automation projects and playing a major part in the capital investments that build our next factory. We’re looking for someone with the breadth to be useful from day one and the ambition to grow into one of the most important technical roles in the business. If you want a workshop, a varied workload, real ownership, and a company that will back you to grow: read on. What You’ll Be Working On Fabricating and installing mechanical rigs, guards, and production aids (welding, cutting, assembly) Diagnosing and repairing breakdowns across a wide range of production equipment Building and wiring control panels: VFDs, relays, contactors, and PLCs Installing and calibrating sensors, solenoids, motors, and safety devices Tuning line configurations and flow for better efficiency Trialling automation that takes load off operators and unlocks capacity Leading and supporting capex projects from concept to commissioning: with bigger ones to come as we grow What You’ll Bring Breadth and ambition matter more than deep specialism. We’re looking for someone strong across most of the following, with the drive to grow into automation leadership: Hands-on mechanical fabrication - MIG/TIG welding, cutting, assembly, fitting Mechanical maintenance and repair across varied equipment Electrical panel design, wiring, and build Sensor logic, wiring, and systems integration Working knowledge of PLC/HMI programming (Mitsubishi, Omron, ladder logic) and the appetite to take it further A resourceful, ownership-driven mindset: you find a way, you finish what you start, and you want to grow This Role Isn’t For You If… You’re a specialist who wants to spend every day on one discipline (e.g. pure PLC programming) You’d rather specify and outsource work than get hands-on and make it yourself You want a fixed, predictable remit rather than a role that grows as fast as the company does Where This Role Can Go We’re hiring for breadth now because the person who can do a bit of everything is the person who understands the whole operation and that’s exactly who should lead our automation programme along with major capital projects as we scale. This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity in a business that’s growing fast. What’s In It For You? Years Benefits Salary of £55,000 - £60,000 Medicash Level 4 Cashback plan Spill EAP and Mental Health Support programme Annual £250.00 Learning & Development budget for courses, books or other self-learn activities each year Annual £200.00 Wellbeing budget each year Up to 2 weeks working abroad per year (selected roles) Monthly recognition through our Yappa of The Month programme 1 Volunteer day per year - dog themed or not: it’s your choice! I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
