Project Engineering Lead
Project Engineering Lead (PEL) – Luton
Salary Range £59,000–£75,000 (Salary reflects Leonardo’s UK-grade banding and external market benchmarking.)
### Your Impact

As Project Engineering Lead (PEL) in the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector (Electronic Warfare), you will:
- Lead day-to-day engineering management for assigned projects,
- Report to the Project Engineering Manager (PEM),
- Collaborate with the Mission Support Products Integrated Project Team (IPT) to safeguard progress,
- Mentor and develop your engineering team through coaching,
- Split time between contract delivery and business growth to advance multiple customers/end users in a role based in Luton, offering hybrid work models.
### What You’ll Do
- Lead technical delivery: Oversee engineering and bid operations with adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Manage cross-site teams: Guide multi-disciplined, distributed teams across defined roles and responsibilities.
- Customer and stakeholder relationships: Cultivate trust with customers, partners, and internal teams—including the IPT lead, Project Manager, and functional heads.
- Technical oversight: Work closely with Chief Engineer/Systems Design Authority to ensure technical milestones, risk mitigation, and feasibility of designs.
- End-user alignment: Verify designs meet specifications, compliance requirements, and environmental constraints—aligning with product roadmaps.
- Configuration management: Dictate project documentation and ensure design reuse while managing changes.
- Procurement support: Guide supplier relationships and make/buy decisions.
- Travel requirements:
- Regular UK-wide travel to collaborate with teams, clients, and partners.
- Potential for overseas travel may apply.

### What You’ll Bring
Essential: ✱ Proven experience in early-stage engineering lifecycle and bid engineering (delivering bid proposals). ✱ Demonstrated engineering project management in complex environments. ✱ Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or science. ✱ Strong communication skills with the ability to direct cross-functional teams. ✱ Complex problem-solving judgment to balance competing priorities. ✱ Commercial/financial acumen. ✱ Full project lifecycle experience (concept to console).
Technical/industry prefs: 🔹 Military domain knowledge or teammate experience. 🔹 Expertise in Agile methodologies, DevOps tools, or similar. 🔹 Problem definition, requirements scope, and software development experience. 🔹 Familiarity with airborne equipment development + certification. 🔹 Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) or outsourcing complex workstations.
### Security Clearance
✳ Pre-employment screening against the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). ✳ Additional National Security Vetting (up to level Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV)) may apply.
