About the Role

Salary Range

£59,000 – £75,000 This reflects the approved grade band for this role, subject to Leonardo UK’s grade-based salary framework. Exceptions are managed through governance controls to maintain internal equity.

Leonardo UK is seeking motivated Project Engineering Leads (PELs) to join our Electronic Warfare and Future Combat Air Lines of Business. Join our growing Integrated Project Team (IPT) on a permanent basis in a hybrid role, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager.


Responsibilities

As a Project Engineering Lead, you’ll:

  • Lead end-to-end development, maintenance, and enhancement of a product line.
  • Conduct key activities:
    • Lead engineering efforts, ensuring technical quality, schedule, and budget adherence.
    • Manage cross-site, multi-disciplined engineering teams, defining roles clearly.
    • Foster customer and partner relationships to deliver project capability.
    • Maintain internal communication across the IPT, collaborating with the IPT Lead, Project Manager, and Functional Heads.
    • Work closely with the Systems Design Authority on technical progress, risks, and mitigation.
    • Validate that design solutions meet user requirements, reliability standards, and environmental constraints.
    • Align the solution with the business route map, maximise design reuse, and control project configuration.
    • Support supplier management and Make or Buy decisions.
    • Capture and evaluate candidate concept solutions, including trade-off studies and user engagement.
    • Develop the Engineering Team, providing mentoring, coaching, and appraisals.

Requirements

Must-Have

✅ Clear, concise engineering planning ability. ✅ Strong problem-solving skills. ✅ Proficient schedule and budget control. ✅ Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse stakeholders. ✅ Commercial awareness. ✅ Ability to balance leadership with teamwork skills. ✅ Knowledge of engineering life-cycle and business processes. ✅ Willingness to travel (domestically/overseas).

Nice-to-Have

🔹 Experience in the military domain. 🔹 Expertise in requirements elicitation, software product development, or airborne equipment certification. 🔹 Experience in New Product Introduction. 🔹 Degree in Engineering or Science (or equivalent).

Security Clearance

This role requires pre-employment security screening under the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
