Salary Range
£75,000 – £82,000
Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

You’ll:
- Lead high-performing teams to drive technical innovation
- Deliver cutting-edge defence solutions
- Collaborate within an exciting Integrated Project Team (IPT), combining both permanent and innovative project structures
This role offers a hybrid working opportunity, allowing flexibility in your work arrangement.
What You’ll Do
As Project Engineering Manager, your responsibilities include:

Ownership and execution of engineering strategy to ensure products meet long-term business goals, including the Product Maturity & Capability Roadmap, production demands, and support requirements.

Core responsibilities:
- Lead engineering aspects of projects, ensuring alignment with technical quality, schedule, and budget.
- Manage cross-site, cross-functional engineering teams, clarifying roles and responsibilities.
- Build strong relationships with customers and partners to achieve project goals.
- Foster clear internal communication across the Engineering IPT, aligning with the IPT lead, project manager, and functional heads.
- Collaborate closely with the System Design Authority, providing updates on technical progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure designs meet end-user requirements, are documented for reliability, and operate effectively within the designated environment.
- Align design solutions with the business area roadmap.
- Manage project configuration and change control to optimise design reuse.
- Support supplier management and make-or-buy decisions.
- Capture and assess feasible concept solutions, including trade-off studies and end-user feedback.
- Develop and mentor the engineering team, including setting objectives and conducting appraisals.

What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Ability to produce clear, concise engineering plans.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective schedule and budget control.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with commercial awareness.
- Ability to engage and collaborate across stakeholders and multiple locations.
- Demonstrated leadership competency, including strong teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of engineering lifecycle and business process.
- Willingness to travel, including both UK-based and overseas assignments.
Desired (not exhaustive)
- Experience in the military sector.
- Expertise in requirements elicitation and software product definitions.
- Background in airborne equipment development and certification.
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
- Engineering or scientific degree (or equivalent qualifications).
