The Role
As Backfill Delivery Lead, you will be responsible for the successful pre-construction planning and delivery of the Main Civil Works backfill package. You will lead multidisciplinary teams through design development, planning, procurement and construction, ensuring the works are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and delivery of the backfill package from pre-construction through to execution.
- Drive collaboration between engineering, design, construction and commercial teams.
- Manage technical development including backfill design, temporary works, site trials, monitoring and construction methodologies.
- Develop and maintain construction sequencing and 4D planning models.
- Produce delivery strategies, logistics plans and Project Execution Plans.
- Monitor programme performance, cost and resource requirements.
- Identify and manage project risks, implementing mitigation strategies where required.
- Lead subcontractor procurement activities and support contract administration.
- Ensure high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Manage interfaces across multiple work packages and stakeholders within the Civil Works Alliance.
- Promote continuous improvement and capture lessons learned throughout project delivery.

Your Profile
You are an experienced construction leader with a strong technical background in large-scale earthworks and civil engineering projects. You combine practical site knowledge with excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills and are confident working within complex, multidisciplinary project environments.
You Will Bring
- Significant experience delivering large-scale excavation and backfill works.
- Proven leadership experience on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction planning, logistics and project delivery.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and complex stakeholder relationships.
- Commercial awareness with experience monitoring budgets and managing project performance.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective working relationships across integrated project teams.

Desirable Experience
Experience In Any Of The Following Would Be Advantageous
- Nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
- Major infrastructure programmes.
- NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contracts and Subcontracts.
- Joint Venture or Alliance delivery models.
- UK major construction projects.
- Temporary works and earthworks engineering.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Membership of APM, PMI or an equivalent professional project management institution.
- CSCS Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) Card or CSCS Black Manager Card.
