I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What You’ll Do:
- Administrative Excellence: Keep the machinery running. You'll own the day-to-day coordination, take minutes in deep-dive vendor meetings (e.g., with major global tech partners), and relentlessly track actions.
- The Reporting Engine: Compile and synthesise complex updates into crisp, executive-ready dashboards and steering committee packs.
- Governance & RAID: Pragmatically manage the portfolio lifecycle across Agile/hybrid frameworks and actively challenge central RAID registers.
- Financial & Resource Coordination: Track portfolio budgets, forecasts, third-party partner financials, and resource onboarding.
Who You Are:
- Tech-Shop Literate: You have extensive experience working within a fast-paced Technology/IT shop. (Note: Financial Services background is not mandatory—experience in a busy IT delivery environment is what matters most!)
- A Master Coordinator: You thrive on bringing structure to busy portfolios. Administrative delivery, tracking actions, and managing central workspaces (Jira/Confluence) is your sweet spot.
- A High-Touch Communicator: You possess the emotional intelligence and gravitas to firmly but politely chase Project Managers for updates. You are comfortable collaborating with distributed, offshore teams (e.g., in India and South Africa).
- Dependable & Available: You are reliable, execution-focused, and ready to hit the ground running to seamlessly cover this gap.
