Project Manager
Job Title: Project Manager (Employability & Youth Work Manager)
Location: Manchester, United Kingdom (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Start Date: Immediate Start.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (£30,000 - £35,000 per annum)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Project Manager to lead and deliver high-quality employability, skills development, and youth engagement programmes across Greater Manchester.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with experience in youth work, employability services, community development, or education programmes. The successful candidate will oversee project delivery, manage staff and volunteers, develop partnerships, and ensure positive outcomes for young people and adults facing barriers to education, training, and employment.
The role requires a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and supporting individuals to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership & Management
- Lead, coordinate, and continuously improve employability, skills, and youth development programmes.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with agreed targets and funding requirements.
- Monitor programme quality and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and oversee curriculum content and programme delivery frameworks.
Youth Engagement & Employability Support
- Build positive, professional, and trauma-informed relationships with young people and adults.
- Deliver engaging workshops, training sessions, and group activities.
- Provide one-to-one mentoring, coaching, and progression support.
- Support participants with:
- CV development
- Job applications
- Interview preparation
- Career planning
- Job search activities
- Develop personalised support plans and progression pathways.
Project & Performance Management
- Manage project outcomes and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Maintain accurate records and data using appropriate digital systems.
- Prepare reports for funders, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Track participant engagement, progression, and programme impact.

Team Leadership
- Line manage staff, sessional workers, and volunteers.
- Conduct supervision sessions, appraisals, and performance reviews.
- Support staff development and promote a positive working culture.
- Ensure effective resource allocation and project planning.
Partnership Development
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Employers
- Schools and colleges
- Training providers
- Community organisations
- Local authorities
- Referral agencies
- Create opportunities that support participant progression into education, employment, and training.
Safeguarding, Compliance & Risk Management
- Act as the designated safeguarding lead within programmes.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Safeguarding legislation and best practice
- GDPR and confidentiality requirements
- Health and Safety regulations
- Organisational policies and procedures
- Manage risk assessments and safeguarding concerns appropriately.
Person Specification
Essential Experience
- Proven experience managing employability, youth work, education, training, or community-based programmes.
- Experience supervising staff, volunteers, or project teams.
- Direct experience supporting young people using a youth-centred and trauma-informed approach.
- Experience delivering workshops, training sessions, and mentoring programmes.
- Experience managing projects against targets, outcomes, and KPIs.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Youth development and engagement
- Employability programmes
- Barriers to education, employment, and training
- Risk management and safeguarding
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and project management abilities.
- Ability to build partnerships and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Excellent report writing and administrative skills.
- Confidence using digital platforms and database systems.

Essential Qualifications
- A qualification in one or more of the following areas:
- Youth Work
- Education
- Employability
- Project Management
- Community Development
- Social Work
- Safeguarding
- Or a related discipline
- Additional training in Safeguarding, Mental Health Awareness, First Aid, or Trauma-Informed Practice is highly desirable.
Desirable
- Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, Agile, PMP, or equivalent).
- Experience managing funded programmes.
- Experience working with vulnerable or disadvantaged young people.
- Knowledge of local employment and skills provision within Greater Manchester.
