The Role
As a Project Manager at UKAEA, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of projects within our diverse portfolio—spanning research, engineering, technology, and infrastructure. Your role ensures successful outcomes by aligning project objectives with business goals while maintaining safety, timeliness, budget compliance, and quality standards.
Key responsibilities extend beyond managing delivery to:
- Overseeing technical specialists, commercial teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Translating business objectives into actionable plans.
- Supporting the development of junior project professionals.
- Ensuring seamless procurement and contractual compliance.
Experience-level adaptability:
- Senior-level managers may take on team leadership.
- Mid-carrier professionals will prioritise execution and governance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead full project lifecycles, ensuring objectives are met safely, on budget, on time, and to quality standards.
- Develop and maintain project management plans, schedules, governance structures, and delivery strategies.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, addressing risks and implementing corrective actions.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams, securing necessary resources for success.
- Oversee risks, issues, dependencies, and change throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cultivate strong stakeholder relationships with clear, consistent communication.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, governance frameworks, organisational policies, and engineering assurance requirements.
- Support procurement and contract oversight, collaborating with Commercial teams and external suppliers.
- Facilitate project governance through gateway reviews, project boards, and assurance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement by embedding best-practice project management and mentoring junior colleagues.

What You’ll Bring
Core Experience & Skills
- Proven track record in delivering complex projects or workstreams in high-risk or regulated environments.
- Recognised project management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or PMP).
- NEC4 certification or extensive experience plus working knowledge of CEMAR (ThinkProject).
- Expertise in project methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and governance frameworks.
- Strong financial acumen, including budget management, performance forecasting, and risk mitigation.

Benefits & Research Location
Salary: £57,117 annual base (inclusive of Specialist Allowance) + capped annuity contribution of 21.5% in the pension scheme.
