Project Manager
Automation Projects Manager
Purpose of the Role
To successfully manage and deliver multiple automation projects from sales handover through to successful Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). Accountable for ensuring individual projects are completed on time, within the agreed budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Act as main customer contact throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring effective communication between the customer and project team.
- Ensure project estimates, budgets, and schedules remain aligned with project plans.
- Define and coordinate resource requirements with department heads.
- Maintain quoted profitability and manage deviations from specification or contractual obligations.
- Identify and address any barriers to project progress.
- Manage scope creep effectively, considering contractual and financial impacts, and escalate/challenge when required.
- Communicate deliverables clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and motivate virtual project teams to deliver key milestones.
- Monitor project budgets and payment schedules.
- Ensure all project documentation complies with SOPs and standards.
- Arrange and manage project review meetings.
- Identify contractual risks and escalate where necessary.
- Build strong customer relationships and deliver best-in-class service.

Outputs / Deliverables
- Delivery of projects on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Accurate and timely project status reports.
- Defined project plans with milestones and deliverables.
- Effective communication and coordination across all stakeholders.
- Identification and mitigation of risks, financial and contractual issues.
- Compliance with ISO standards, SOPs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Experience & Skills
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of managing, facilitating, and leading key review meetings.
- Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- A demonstrable track record in team leadership, excellent communication skills, and the capability to build long-term customer relationships.
- Proven experience in providing solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities, demands, and timelines simultaneously.
- Experience of liaising with customers on complex and potentially difficult matters.

Technical Skills
- Ability to challenge unrealistic expectations and offer alternatives.
- Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills, including MS Project or other planning software.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Ability to drive forward and manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion.
- Ability to elicit co-operation from a wide variety of sources.
- Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to explain complex issues clearly.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Knowledge & Experience
- IOSH qualification.
- Awareness of quality and safety management processes.
- 5S change experience.
- Experience of LEAN manufacturing techniques.
- Prince2 or other project management qualification.
- Experience of delivering projects within a regulatory environment.
- Experience with ERP/MRP/SAP systems.
- ONC/HNC in a relevant engineering discipline.
