Project Manager

Project Manager – Sustainable Fusion Energy

Company Description

About us Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating cleaner, carbon-free energy. UKAEA leads the way in realising fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. Our goal is to bring fusion electricity to the grid by developing the power stations of tomorrow and training the skilled workforce to deliver them.

About the Job

As a Project Manager, you will lead the successful delivery of projects and programme workstreams that support UKAEA’s mission to deliver sustainable fusion energy. Working across a diverse portfolio—spanning research, engineering, technology, and infrastructure—you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining required quality standards. You will collaborate closely with technical specialists, commercial teams, and senior stakeholders to translate business objectives into actionable plans, manage performance, maintain governance, and realise project benefits. Depending on your experience level, you may also lead project teams and mentor junior project professionals.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of projects or programme workstreams, ensuring objectives are achieved safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain project management plans, schedules, governance arrangements, and delivery strategies.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, securing necessary resources to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and change throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, delivering clear communications and regular progress reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, governance frameworks, organisational policies, and engineering assurance requirements.
  • Oversee procurement and contract management activities, collaborating with Commercial teams and external suppliers.
  • Support project governance through gateway reviews, project boards, assurance activities, and performance reporting.
  • Champion continuous improvement by embedding best-practice project management and mentoring junior professionals.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
