Civils Project Manager – Service Upgrades

Location: Washington (covering the North East Region)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £52,500 + Car/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits

Freedom has an exciting opportunity for a Civils Project Manager to lead the delivery of our New Connections Service Upgrades contract with Northern Powergrid. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of civils works associated with new electrical connection projects across the North East.

Working closely with operational teams, clients and stakeholders, you will oversee multiple projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of civils service upgrade works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Lead and manage a team of Field Managers, Supervisors, Planners, Engineers, and Site Operatives.
  • Act as the main operational point of contact with Northern Powergrid.
  • Ensure compliance with all HSQE policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently from planning through to energisation and handover.
  • Plan and allocate labour, plant, and materials to meet project requirements.
  • Monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement across contract performance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including RAMS and as-built records.
  • Liaise with local authorities, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Support commercial performance through effective planning, resource management, and cost control.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and maintain high standards of quality across all activities.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience in an operational or project management role within civil excavations, cable installation, utilities, or power distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering and utility construction works.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and contract management capability.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
  • Streetworks knowledge and understanding of NRSWA requirements.
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
