Experienced Project Manager – Major Infrastructure Project

Department: Operations Management (Site/Project/Regional) Employment Type: Permanent – Full Time Location: Bedford Workplace Type: Onsite

Are you looking to take ownership of a major infrastructure project in the Midlands? We’re seeking an expert Project Manager to drive excellence across every stage of construction, balancing technical governance, safety, commercial performance, and stakeholder relationships.


About the Role

You’ll lead end-to-end project delivery, ensuring high standards in quality, safety, and environmental excellence, while optimising commercial outcomes and fostering a collaborative yet rigorously disciplined team culture.


What You Will Be Doing

** Strategic Delivery & Leadership**

  • Lead project-wide quality, safety, and environmental strategy, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical authority, resolving complex engineering challenges and overseeing temporary and permanent works schedules.
  • Champion design governance, ensuring aligns with BIM standards and buildability while meeting client requirements.
  • Manage RFI responses, variations, and claims to maintain programme and commercial objectives.
  • Shape and execute commercial strategies, including cost forecasting, risk mitigation, and contractor negotiations.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee strategic logistics planning, including multi-site access, delivery coordination, and supply chain integration.
  • Direct procurement and materials strategies, working closely with key suppliers to ensure programme adherence and quality.
  • Own the master programme, leading recovery planning and tracking progress against critical milestones.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Inspire and lead the project team, clarifying roles, accountability, and performance—including Section 106/social value commitments (apprenticeships, work placements, local employment).
  • Build and manage client/stakeholder relationships, chairing structured meetings and ensuring flawless project delivery outcomes.
  • Foster a safety-first culture, influencing behaviours across the entire team and site.

What You Will Bring

Essential Qualifications & Certifications

  • Black CSCS Card
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certificate
  • Significant experience in managing major civils, rail, utilities, or infrastructure projects (retail, residential, or industrial preferred).

  • Decisive leadership under pressure with ability to pivot quickly in dynamic environments.
  • Strong commercial awareness with deep understanding of project cost drivers and value engineering.
  • Exceptional stakeholder communication, influencing senior and technical audiences effectively.
  • Technical rigour with ability to challenge, analyse, and refine engineering solutions.
  • Strategic mindset, with skills in planning, governance, and risk management.
  • High integrity, resilience, and continual pursuit of excellence in performance.
  • Passion for building collaborative, empowered teams within a safety-first culture.

Desirable Qualifications

  • MICE / AMICE / IEng (Member/Associate Member/Incorporated Engineer)
  • PRINCE2 or APM PMQ certification
  • MSc in Civil Engineering or Construction Project Management
