About Fusion and UKAEA
Fusion, the process that powers the sun and stars, is one of the most promising options for generating the cleaner, carbon-free energy that our world badly needs. UKAEA leads the way in realizing fusion energy, partnering with industry and research organisations to achieve ground-breaking advancements. You will work closely with technical specialists, commercial teams and senior stakeholders to translate business objectives into deliverable plans, manage project performance, oversee governance and ensure project benefits are realised. Depending on experience, you may also lead project teams and support the development of junior project professionals.

- Lead multidisciplinary project teams, securing the resources needed to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Manage project risks, issues, dependencies and change throughout the project lifecycle.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing clear communication and regular progress reporting.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, governance frameworks, organisational policies and engineering assurance requirements.
- Oversee procurement and contract management activities, working closely with Commercial colleagues and external suppliers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
