About the Role

As a Project Manager within Arcadis’ Rail North team, you will oversee the delivery of small to medium-scale projects, or discrete work packages within larger programmes, through clearly defined scope, commercial and governance frameworks.

This role will prepare you for progression into senior project leadership, providing growing exposure to:

  • Complex project delivery
  • Commercial accountability
  • Client relationship management
  • People leadership

Key Accountabilities

Project Delivery & Quality

  • Manage portfolio of assigned projects/work packages in line with scope, programme, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Apply project management methodologies (tools, techniques) to plan, monitor and control performance.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, escalating where necessary.
  • Lead regular project reviews, ensuring timely resolution of actions.
  • Collaborate with discipline leads and experts to deliver high-quality, coordinated outcomes.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Operate within Arcadis’ financial and project control systems, maintaining project plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor financial performance, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Understand key financial concepts:
    • (WIP) Work-in-progress
    • (Cashflow) Project liquidity
    • (Net vs. gross revenue) Measurement principles
    • (Utilisation) Resource allocation efficiency.
  • Manage project commercial aspects:
    • Fee adjustments
    • Assumptions and exclusions
    • Sub-consultant coordination.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, aligning with their drivers, priorities and expectations.
  • Build and maintain positive, professional client relationships through clarity and timeliness.
  • Liaise with third-party contractors, suppliers and delivery partners to ensure role clarity and interface alignment.

Risk, Safety, Health & Sustainability

  • Actively support project risk and compliance management.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health and environmental standards, fostering a positive safety culture.
  • Integrate sustainability solutions into project delivery, aligned with Arcadis’ environmental and social commitments.

People, Collaboration & Communication

  • Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to project and team objectives.
  • Provide informal guidance to junior colleagues as needed.
  • Participate in personal and professional development.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across all audiences—written, verbal, and digital methods.

Digital & Continuous Improvement

  • Utilise Arcadis’ project management systems, data and digital tools for evidence-based delivery.
  • Share lessons learnt and identify ways to enhance project management practices.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience delivering projects or workstreams in the rail, transport or infrastructure sector (consultancy or similar).
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, cost control, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Sound commercial awareness, experience with standard client/sub-consultant contracts.
  • Strong analytical and collaborative capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and stakeholder groups.

Advantages (Non-Essential)

  • Membership of or working towards chartership with a UK professional body (e.g. APM, ICE).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in project management, business or finance.
