Metrowest 1b Scheme – Portishead to Bristol Temple Meads

Role Overview

The Metrowest 1b scheme will reinstate passenger rail services between Portishead and Bristol Temple Meads, improving regional connectivity and supporting sustainable transport.

This programme includes:

  • Construction of 4.5 km of disused railway between Pill and Portishead
  • New stations at Pill and Portishead
  • Highways and utility works
  • Rock stabilisation and drainage
  • Bridges, retaining walls, and other lineside civils

Delivery is planned from January 2026 to mid-2028 in collaboration with Network Rail.

Role Responsibilities

We are looking for a Civils Project Manager to lead the highways and utilities works in Portishead to support the construction of the new Portishead Station, alongside associated civils including bridges, retaining walls, and earthworks.

You will be responsible for successfully managing allocated multidisciplinary projects from conception through to completion, ensuring delivery that meets project requirements, customer expectations, SHEQ standards, and Morgan Sindall values.

  • Lead and manage highways, utilities, and wider civils packages
  • Oversee planning, design, construction, and handover phases
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the required quality and safety standards
  • Provide strong leadership, mentoring, and development for your team
  • Manage financial performance, risks, and contractual obligations
  • Foster collaborative working with Network Rail and other stakeholders

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager (or Site Agent ready for the next step) with a proven track record of delivering similar civils schemes.

You will bring:

  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Excellent construction knowledge across highways, utilities, bridges, retaining walls, and earthworks
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, programmes, and risks
  • Degree or HNC/HND in a relevant technical discipline
  • A solid understanding of legislative compliance, including H&S, environment, and employment law
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to assess value and evaluate variations
