Project Manager
Talented Project Manager – Defence Programme (Gosport)

We are looking for a Talented Project Manager to join one of our major Defence programmes based in Gosport. The role involves delivering complex, high-profile projects that support critical national infrastructure, offering an exciting opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Due to the nature of this Defence project, candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance (SC). Existing clearance is a strong advantage.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for ensuring exceptional outcomes across vital project areas. Key tasks include:
- Championing Mace’s safety-first value by upholding standards in: safety, quality, programme, sustainability and compliance.
- Managing day-to-day contractor activities, design coordination, and resolving technical queries.
- Tracking and managing project reporting across:
- Progress
- Cost
- Schedule
- Risk
- Performance dashboards
- Progress updates
- Supporting governance and assurance activities, including:
- Gateway reviews
- Internal/external assurance panels
- Programme board submissions (GWRs, PAG, SPAG)
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining:
- Accurate project information
- Systems and records (IMS, CP&F, CEMAR)
- Contributing to business cases, documentation, and project approvals.
- Supporting the Lead PM with:
- Verification and validation of project outputs (financials, schedules, BIM/AIM, GSL, and contractor deliverables).
- Baseline updates and change control processes.
- Offering guidance, mentorship, and support to junior team members and PMO colleagues.
- Promoting collaboration, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across teams.

Requirements
To excel in this role, you will need:
- A degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent qualification relevant to project delivery or the built environment.
- NEC4 excellence award (experienced and accredited).
- Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body, such as:
- APM, RICS, CIOB
- Proven experience delivering projects within:
- Large public sector organisations (e.g., defence, security, infrastructure, transport, health, central government).
- Demonstrable construction project delivery expertise across all RIBA stages, particularly RIBA Stage 4.
- Technical delivery experience, working collaboratively with:
- Contractors
- Client-side teams
- Ability to work independently, delivering outputs in line with procedures, orders, and governance requirements.
- Strong organisational, coordination and documentation skills, with a focus on maintaining accurate project records.
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Project (or similar project management tools).
- Ability to obtain or currently hold security clearance.
