Project Manager – Impact Team (Pension Communication Strategies)

** Project Description** Mercer is excited to present an opportunity to join our Impact team as a Project Manager.

About the Role

As a Project Manager within Mercer’s Impact team, you will lead the delivery of complex client projects, initially focused on pension communication strategies, with the ability to support broader reward and benefits communication projects. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful and high-standard delivery.
  • Acting as a key liaison between clients, internal teams, and external vendors to ensure alignment and client satisfaction.
  • Leveraging project management expertise, financial acumen, and strong communication skills to drive professional services delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Delivery

  • Lead and manage end-to-end project delivery, ensuring adherence to time, scope, and budget.
  • Develop detailed project plans, set milestones, and coordinate internal and external resources efficiently.
  • Monitor project financials, including budgets, WIP, invoices, and profitability, while proactively identifying and escalating risks.
  • Ensure quality control of all deliverables, particularly communication collateral, while maintaining professional standards and client expectations.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships, acting as the primary point of contact for project delivery.
  • Understand client needs and objectives, providing strategic advice and communication solutions to enhance effectiveness.

Business Development & Growth

  • Collaborate with senior consultants and other Mercer Lines of Business to identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
  • Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, pitches, and client presentations.
  • Identify upselling opportunities in existing client accounts.
  • Maintain accurate sales pipelines and project tracking tools.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering their professional growth.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives and contribute to developing best practices within the team.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Project Management, Business, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5–7+ years’ experience in project management within professional services, ideally supporting communication projects or similar fields.
  • Strong understanding of pension communications (highly desirable).
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, budgeting, risk management, and resource coordination.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across all client and internal stakeholder levels.
  • Financial acumen for managing project profitability and commercial considerations.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to collaborate in a matrix environment and manage multiple stakeholders.
