Project Manager

Project Manager (Automated Test & Engineering Systems) – Northamptonshire

£40-60K

About the Role

A specialist engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of complex automated test and engineering system projects across high-value sectors, including:

  • Aerospace & Defence
  • Automotive
  • Medical Devices
  • Electronics Manufacturing

This role is ideal for someone with a background in automated test systems, electronics manufacturing test (EMT), or broader engineering-led project delivery. You’ll need expertise in managing technical stakeholders, coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and ensuring seamless execution across software and hardware production disciplines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple concurrent engineering and test system projects
  • Act as the primary liaison between customers and internal teams throughout delivery
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and reporting
  • Coordinate activities between software, hardware, mechanical, and production teams
  • Monitor project progress, budgets, risks and resources
  • Manage change control and scope alignment with stakeholders
  • Support engineering handover from sales/quotation to delivery phase
  • Facilitate clear communication across internal and external teams
  • Lead project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and procedural standards

Technical Exposure

Ideally, the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in:

  • Automated test or validation systems
  • Electronics manufacturing test environments (FCT / ICT)
  • Test software environments (e.g., lab-based automation tools)
  • PXI or modular instrumentation systems
  • Measurement and instrumentation equipment
  • Development of test fixtures or tooling
  • Integration of electrical/electronic hardware systems
  • Understanding of the engineering project lifecycle delivery

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven project management experience in a technical/engineering environment
  • Background in electronics, test engineering, or automated test equipment preferred
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining project plans, schedules, and budgets
