About us

The British Energy Security Strategy set out the Government’s ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore generation to the electricity network by 2030. Delivering this ambition requires significant reinforcement of the onshore electricity transmission network, and National Grid Strategic Infrastructure is leading the way.

We are looking for a Project Manager to join the Sealink project as part of The Great Grid Upgrade. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, sanctioning, delivering and closing a major 525kV HVDC converter project, ensuring it is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to specification, in accordance with National Grid’s Network Development Process.

This is a hybrid role, requiring regular travel to Kent and occasional travel to London. We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements to support your needs. This role comes with a job requirement car.

What You'll Do

  • Manage one or more EPC projects, depending on the project lifecycle.
  • Take swift and effective action to bring projects back on track where necessary, recognising the impact that delays can have across the wider portfolio.
  • Implement and maintain a robust risk management process throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all project changes are managed appropriately and remain compliant with governance requirements.
  • Deliver projects in line with agreed monthly, annual and overall budget targets.
  • Manage and deliver project CapEx spend effectively.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to optimise costs while maintaining scope and quality requirements.
  • Promote a positive safety culture where everyone feels empowered to raise concerns and take ownership of safety issues through our industry-leading Safe to Say approach.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership in safety by conducting site visits and providing timely feedback on potential improvements.
  • Ensure clear, accessible and consistent project communications are maintained throughout delivery, including safety updates, incident reporting and lessons learned.
  • Fulfil all project obligations relating to safety, health, environment, security and quality, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Lead high-performing teams, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and delivery excellence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including principal contractors, suppliers, customers, landowners, local authorities, residents and businesses.
  • Support engagement with external stakeholders including Ofgem and Members of Parliament.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and used to drive continuous improvement.
  • Communicate openly, honestly and transparently, celebrating successes while sharing lessons learned when challenges arise.
  • Mentor and develop team members, supporting their ongoing professional growth and career development.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in project management and/or engineering, ideally within a large-scale infrastructure, utilities or construction environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Experience in contract management; knowledge of FIDIC contracts would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.
  • A resilient, proactive and results-driven approach, with the ability to adapt to change and overcome challenges.
  • A commitment to delivering projects safely and to the highest standards of quality.
  • A full UK driving licence.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary of £55,000 – £67,000 per annum, depending on capability. This role also comes with a market supplement of £4,500 which is spread across a 12 month period.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
