Our flagship software, Exonaut, is widely adopted by NATO and allied forces for exercise planning, execution, and evaluation. Exonaut supports real-time exercise planning across military headquarters and agencies, facilitates staff and command briefings, and enables evidence-based decision-making. The platform's scalability allows for remote, real-time exercise planning, enhancing training efficiency and readiness. 4C Strategies' team of military consultants and software engineers collaborate globally with various armed forces, including those of the UK, US, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Norway, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and Finland, to develop and deliver tailored training and exercise management solutions.

Your Role

As a Project Manager in our EMEA Defence Team, you will oversee a portfolio of projects, managing all phases from planning and implementation to execution and successful delivery. While project complexity may vary, most will have a strong technical focus. Your responsibilities will span from project initiation and requirements gathering to customer sign-off and ongoing support. Collaboration is key, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, stakeholders, and customers, to drive the delivery of innovative solutions. As well as working within a team you will have autonomy and should be comfortable working independently in dispersed locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop comprehensive project plans, outlining scope, milestones, timelines, and resource allocation. Monitor project progress, adjusting as necessary to ensure successful completion.
  • Project Leadership: Lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve project goals. Assign tasks, set clear expectations, and provide guidance to team members.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders. Communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively, ensuring alignment and managing expectations.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies. Proactively address challenges to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all project deliverables meet the highest quality standards and align with client requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyse project outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Implement best practices and lessons learned to enhance future project performance.
  • Opportunity identification: Work closely with the customer to understand their needs and requirements, identifying opportunities to increase project growth.

About you

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Demonstratable experience of working in either the defence or security sectors at an SO2/SO3 level or equivalent. Proven success in managing complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, IT infrastructure, and systems integration. Experience with military training management solutions is advantageous.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Security Clearance: Eligibility for security clearance is required due to the nature of our customers and projects.
  • Travel: Ability to travel regularly to customer sites (UK and Europe mainly) often for extended periods of time.
