Project Manager (Environmental) – WSP
What if you could shape a career as unique as you?
At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
About the Role
We’re growing our Environmental Project Management team and excited to welcome several Project Managers into our Project, Programme Management and PMO community.
In this role, you’ll play an important part in delivering multi-disciplinary environmental projects, working closely with Senior Project Managers and Technical Leads to ensure projects remain safe, on track, and within budget. You’ll gain exposure to a varied and meaningful portfolio across the UK, supporting both public and private sector clients.
Our team spans PMO, Project Controls, Project Management, and Project Director roles, working across every stage of the project lifecycle. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of smaller projects while also supporting larger programmes and portfolios, providing diverse experience to drive your career growth.
Beyond project delivery, there’s scope to mentor junior colleagues, contribute to team development, and shape the future of our Environmental Project Management capability.
This is a great opportunity to build your core project management and PMO skills, develop confidence, and progress towards a Senior Environmental Project Manager role over time. You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team that genuinely invests in your development, giving you the freedom to learn, grow, and succeed.
Our work is varied, impactful, and often nationally significant. You could be contributing to major programmes such as:
- National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade
- Heathrow Expansion
- East–West Rail
- Sizewell C Plus countless other projects shaping how people live, work, and travel.
And if you enjoy bringing structure to complexity and managing the occasional spreadsheet, you’ll fit right in here.
What’s Involved?
In your role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting the development of project proposals, defining requirements, scope, resourcing, programme, and budget for successful delivery.
- Creating and maintaining clear, structured project documentation, including project plans, cost forecasts, risk registers, and schedules—taking ownership of smaller projects and assisting Senior Project Managers on larger, complex projects.
- Keeping projects on track by actively monitoring progress and driving delivery against agreed timelines.
- Managing project budgets, including time tracking, forecast reconciliation, and expense control to ensure alignment with progress.
- Ensuring health and safety compliance for site visits, including securing necessary internal approvals.
- Supporting contract management and administrative tasks to keep projects running smoothly and in accordance with legal and commercial requirements.
- Proactively managing project risk and change, collaborating with technical teams to maintain alignment with scope, contractual commitments, and governance standards.
- Working with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate efforts, develop colleagues, partners, and suppliers.
- Championing environmental outcomes, supporting sustainability, future-ready, and net zero ambitions across projects.
- Building strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders—representing the Environment and Consents team and acting as a trusted point of contact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
