Project Manager (Environment)
Environmental Project Manager – Project & PMO roles
At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
A little more about your role
We’re expanding our Environmental Project Management team and are excited to welcome several Project Managers into our Project, Programme Management, and PMO community.
In this role, you’ll play a critical part in delivering multi-disciplinary environmental projects, working closely with Senior Project Managers and Technical Leads to keep initiatives safe, on track, and within budget. You’ll gain exposure to a varied and meaningful portfolio across the UK, supporting both public and private sector clients.
Our team covers PMO, Project Controls, Project Management, and Project Director roles, working across every stage of the project lifecycle. You’ll have the chance to take ownership of smaller projects, while also supporting larger programmes and portfolios, giving you the breadth and experience to grow your career.
Beyond project delivery, you’ll have opportunities to mentor junior colleagues, contribute to team development, and help shape the future of our Environmental Project Management capability.
This is a progressive opportunity to build core project management and PMO skills, develop confidence, and progress towards a Senior Environmental Project Manager role over time. You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team that invests in your development, giving you space to learn, grow, and thrive.
Our work is impactful and often nation-wide—from National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade and Heathrow Expansion to East-West Rail and Sizewell C, as well as projects that shape how people live, work, and travel.
If you enjoy bringing structure to complexity—and don’t mind the occasional spreadsheet—then this role will be right at home.
What’s Involved in Your New Role?
- Support the development of project proposals, helping to define requirements, scope, resourcing, programme, and budget for successful delivery.
- Create and maintain clear, well-structured project documentation—such as project plans, cost forecasts, risk registers, and schedules—while owning smaller projects and supporting Senior Project Managers on larger, more complex work.
- Keep projects on track by actively monitoring progress and driving delivery against agreed timelines.
- Manage project costs daily, including tracking time, budgets, forecasts, and spend to ensure alignment with progress.
- Ensure health and safety requirements are in place for site visits, including securing internal approvals.
- Support contract management and administration to keep projects running smoothly and compliant.
- Proactively manage change and risk, collaborating with technical teams to keep projects aligned with scope, contractual requirements, and governance standards.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, helping to coordinate, develop colleagues, partners, and suppliers.
- Champion environmental outcomes, supporting sustainability, future-ready, and net zero ambitions across projects.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders—including opportunities to represent our Environment and Consents team as a trusted point of contact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
