Project Manager

Project Manager – Business Change, Transformation, Modernisation

The Opportunity

We are working with an organisation embarking on a major three-year Modernisation Programme to transform service delivery, improve operational effectiveness, reduce costs, and enhance customer experience. With over 40 projects under way alongside a significant savings agenda, this role offers the chance to drive meaningful change from the outset.

The organisation will be hiring multiple Project Managers, allowing you to collaborate with a team as the transformation develops.

The Role

You will lead the delivery of business change and transformation projects across a diverse portfolio of modernisation initiatives, including:

  • Working closely with senior stakeholders across:

    • HR
    • Finance
    • Housing
    • Education
    • Adult Social Care
    • Children’s Services
    • Other frontline services
  • Developing and managing project plans, governance, risks, issues, and reporting to ensure successful delivery.

  • Facilitating workshops, gathering requirements, and supporting the development of business cases and transformation initiatives.

  • Overseeing project lifecycles, ensuring agreed outcomes and benefits are delivered consistently.

  • Collaborating with Business Analysts, Programme Managers, and service leaders to identify improvement opportunities and drive service redesign.

The Person

We’re looking for a proven, hands-on Project Manager with:

  • Midweight or proven experience in delivering business change, transformation, or service improvement projects in complex organisations (while the role involves some technology elements, the focus is on holistic business transformation).

  • A delivery-focused mindset—actively driving progress and removing obstacles rather than merely reporting on it.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and influence senior leaders.

  • Experience managing full project lifecycles (planning, governance, risk management, and benefits realisation).

  • Comfort working in unstructured environments, where answers may not always be clear, and bringing structure to ambiguity.

  • Organisational discipline to manage multiple priorities and workstreams simultaneously under pressure.

  • Experience in local government, public sector, education, NHS, consulting, or highly regulated environments is advantageous but voluntary.

Desirable:

  • PRINCE2, Agile (or equivalent) Project Management certifications.

The Offer

  • Fixed-term contract (2 years, likely to extend beyond initially).
  • Hybrid working (roughly 2 days in-office per week).
  • Location: North East London/Essex.
