About us
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
About the role
Lead a project that will shape the future of hydrogen infrastructure and help Britain achieve net zero. As a Project Manager for New Molecules, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering a critical part of the UK’s core hydrogen network.
The St-Fergus to Teesside route is pivotal for connecting Scotland’s hydrogen production to the UK's core hydrogen network, enabling decarbonisation of industrial clusters and power stations and improved energy resilience.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery hydrogen pipeline project, ensuring compliance with all governance, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Developing and managing project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
- Driving a positive safety culture and ensuring adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Managing procurement and contract delivery in partnership with supply chain and commercial teams.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary teams across engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Leading regular progress reviews, producing project reports, and escalating risks or issues as needed.
- Acting as a key interface between technical disciplines, contractors, SHE advisors, and senior leadership.
- Representing the Project Director when required and ensuring construction risks are identified and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
