Project Manager Location: Renfrew, Scotland, United Kingdom, PA4 8XJ

As Project Manager at Howden, you’ll coordinate special projects—ensuring smooth execution from handover to final payment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing schedules, budgets, risks, and documentation.
  • Working closely with internal teams across engineering, operations, procurement, and quality.
  • Minimising travel with well-planned schedules where necessary.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Manage projects end-to-end: from sales handover through delivery to final payment.
  • Serve as the main internal contact, coordinating with Project Managers and cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, operations, procurement, quality).
  • Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) activities:
    • Investigate issues thoroughly.
    • Implement timely resolutions.
    • Clarify outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate documentation:
    • Create project datasheets.
    • Populate MRP and document control systems.
    • Maintain updated schedules.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks/delays, and align recovery plans with timeline/cost benchmarks.
  • Report on status, risks, financials, and forecasts to management.
  • Manage:
    • Budgets.
    • Cashflow forecasting.
    • Invoicing.
    • Margin improvement opportunities.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Project or project delivery experience (ideal in manufacturing or engineering environments).
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness—comfortable handling internal/investor issues.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset:
    • Lateral thinking.
    • Issue-resolution skills.
    • Driving corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of meeting budget/time/quality goals.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Desirable but Not Mandatory

  • Knowledge of compressors or rotating machinery.
  • Experience in sectors:
    • Petrochemical, oil & gas.
    • Refrigeration, heat pumps.
    • Biogas, vapour recovery.
  • Project Management qualifications.
  • HNC or higher in a technical discipline.

Working Style & Pattern

  • Flexible hybrid model: Minimum 2 days/week in the Renfrew office.
  • Occasional domestic/international travel to suppliers or customers.
