Your next opportunity:
We’re seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to partner with quarry sites across NSW/ACT, strengthening maintenance capability, reliability and asset management practices to support safer, more efficient operations.
Working directly with sites, you’ll influence how assets are maintained, operated and improved, embedding maintenance and reliability strategies aligned to Boral’s Safe, Compliant, Reliable and Optimised Assets framework. You’ll also support by managing targeted improvement projects and maintenance initiatives where they deliver the greatest value to site and business performance.
This is a hands-on, multi-site role requiring travel and strong on-site presence. You’ll provide technical support, guidance and constructive challenge, building trusted relationships and ensuring improvements are practical, sustainable and embedded.
This role suits a mechanical engineer with a strong maintenance background who enjoys partnering and influencing outcomes, applying engineering judgement in the field, and seeing asset reliability translate into improved business performance.
Your day will involve:
- Partnering with quarry sites to strengthen maintenance and reliability practices aligned to Safe, Compliant, Reliable and Optimised Assets principles, influencing how sites plan, prioritise and execute maintenance activities.
- Supporting the development and ongoing uplift of maintenance strategies that improve asset reliability, availability and lifecycle performance and, in turn, support safer and more efficient quarry operations.
- Managing and delivering minor capital projects focused on targeted asset upgrades, safety improvements and reliability enhancements where investment drives measurable performance improvement (from scoping through to execution).
- Supporting major maintenance planning, shutdown preparation and execution readiness to minimise operational disruption and improve outcomes.
- Providing hands-on engineering support to sites, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis and practical improvement initiatives that build site capability over time.
- Developing and presenting minor CAPEX business cases where investment supports safety, compliance or reliability outcomes and delivers clear business value.
- Managing contractors to ensure work is delivered safely, compliantly and to required engineering standards.
- Contributing to a strong safety and risk management culture by proactively identifying, assessing and mitigating safety and operational risks across sites.
- Travelling to sites across NSW/ACT, ensuring a strong physical site presence to influence outcomes, support leaders and embed improvements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
