Project Manager – Water Asset Design (Municipal/Industrial) – WSP
About the Role

Our Water Asset Design team operates in the municipal water sector and non-regulated (industrial/international) domains, serving key UK water companies and sector contractors. Our workload spans:
- Wastewater and water treatment
- Sewerage and water network schemes
- Support for related industries
- Projects ranging from routine maintenance to some of the largest infrastructure schemes in the UK
Our distributed UK team is backed by outsourced specialists in India, delivering high-impact work through collaborations that deliver excellence in health and safety, commercial accountability, and client-focused outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
As a Project Manager within the Asset Design team, you will:
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Oversee end-to-end project lifecycle, from optioneering to delivery and handover, ensuring alignment with client objectives
- Tell: Work across infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for water and industrial clients
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, procurement, construction, and suppliers) to deliver quality solutions
Core Project Functions
- Scope & Budget Management
- Define requirements, resource allocations, timelines, and cost estimates
- Own P&L responsibility, including revenue delivery, margin management, budget forecasting, and financial controls
- Ensure accounts payable/billing and cash flow optimisation

Activities & Health & Safety (H&S)
- Develop project management documentation: plans, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder engagements, programme schedules, and Commercial PST
- Monitor schedule adherence, manhours, budgets, and expenditures to prevent scope creep
- Stakeholder Communication: Ensure clarity and timely information flow to both the project team and clients

Change & Performance Management
- Conduct commercial contracts administration and change control
- Lead work packages and ensure quality outputs from team members (including Assistant Project Managers)
- Rasically manage project asset documentation, records, and deliverables

Risk & Resilience
- Anticipate issues, proactively mitigate conflicts, and drive continuous improvement
- Chart decisions based on stakeholder expectations, captured lessons learned
What We Require
The right Project Manager will demonstrate:

Industry Knowledge
- Proven experience in infrastructure project delivery, preferably with exposure to regulated water and non-regulated water sectors (highly advantageous, but not essential).
- Strong understanding and compliance with NEC (New Engineering Contract) contracts and processes.

professional expertise
- Diploma accredited member of APM - Association for Project Management / PMI/PM - Project Management Institute.
- Membership ICE - Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers or similar. / Consideration of team.

Certifications and competence in contracts/key tools in WSP’s suite, including safety codes, and other relevant software.

Technical Competences
- Scheduling proficiency: Primavera Functional Skills/Spider in context?
- Stakeholder and risk management: A flair for identifying and managing interests and risks.
- Ability to apply best practices in commercial planning, contract negotiations, and change management
